Austin, TX – After several unseasonably warm days, Central Texas will see a sharp temperature drop this weekend as a strong cold front sweeps through Saturday night. The National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio says highs on Friday and Saturday could reach or even break daily records before much cooler air arrives late Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, the cold front will push south through the Hill Country into the I-35 corridor Saturday evening, ushering in gusty north winds and a notable chill. Sunday will feel dramatically different, with highs in the 60s and lows falling into the 40s by early Monday. No rain is expected with this front, but breezy conditions could make Sunday feel cooler than the thermometer suggests.
The front will bring the first true taste of fall to areas including Austin, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, and New Braunfels. Drivers should be alert to patchy morning fog through Friday, especially along U.S. 281 and I-35, where reduced visibility may develop before sunrise. Behind the front, skies will clear quickly, setting up cool, crisp mornings and sunny afternoons early next week.
Residents are encouraged to plan for wardrobe changes and outdoor adjustments as temperatures tumble more than 20 degrees in less than 24 hours. Pets, plants, and outdoor equipment should be checked before the cold front arrives. A gradual warming trend will return by midweek, restoring highs to the 70s across much of Central Texas.
