Gaylord, Mich. – Northern Michigan will hold onto summer warmth just a little longer, but a major cooldown is on the way starting this weekend. Highs today and Friday will reach into the upper 70s and low 80s under mostly sunny skies, but rain showers return late Friday and continue through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered showers will move in Saturday with highs near 75 to 82 degrees. By Sunday, cooler air pushes south, dropping highs into the mid-60s to mid-70s. More widespread rain showers are expected Sunday, making travel damp across US-131, I-75, and M-72.
The biggest change arrives Monday when highs may struggle to get out of the 60s. Some areas along Lake Michigan and inland communities such as Gaylord, Traverse City, and Petoskey may see afternoon temperatures stuck in the low to mid-60s with scattered showers lingering.
Residents are urged to plan ahead for cooler, wet conditions by Sunday evening, especially for outdoor events or travel. The return of rain and sharply lower temperatures marks a shift toward fall-like weather across the region.
