Bennington, VT – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect this morning for Southern Vermont and parts of Northern New York, with heavy snow expected to continue through early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.
In Vermont, the warning covers Bennington and Western Windham Counties, where 2 to 5 inches are expected below 1,000 feet and 6 to 12 inches above 1,000 feet in areas including Bennington, Woodford, and Londonderry. Snowfall rates between 0.5 to 1 inch per hour are likely through the early afternoon, followed by additional upslope snow overnight.
Across New York’s Adirondacks, including Hamilton, Northern Herkimer, and Northern Fulton Counties, forecasters expect 7 to 12 inches of snow, with localized totals up to 14 inches along south-facing slopes. Lake-effect snow showers are expected to continue into Thursday, adding another 1 to 3 inches in some areas.
The NWS warns that roads, bridges, and overpasses will become slick, making both Wednesday and Thursday morning commutes difficult. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and keep emergency supplies—including a flashlight, food, and water—in their vehicles.
Residents should also watch for icy sidewalks and driveways, as freezing surfaces increase the risk of slips and falls.
