Brainerd, MN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through early Wednesday morning for portions of central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, where heavy snow continues to fall, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.
Forecasters expect 4 to 6 inches of snow, with locally higher totals near 8 inches possible across Crow Wing, Aitkin, and Cass Counties, including Walker, Brainerd, and Aitkin. In Pine County, snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are likely, especially along the I-35 corridor from Willow River to Pine City, where rates of up to 1.5 inches per hour are possible during the evening commute.
Across northwestern Wisconsin, including Burnett and Washburn Counties, residents can expect 3 to 5 inches of snow before tapering off early Wednesday. Slippery roads and reduced visibility will make travel difficult through sunrise, especially on untreated and rural highways.
Drivers are urged to use caution, slow down, and allow extra time for travel. Keep emergency supplies—including flashlights, food, and water—in vehicles, and check road conditions at 511mn.org or 511wi.gov before departing.
