Wakefield, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield reports that freezing fog is occurring across parts of Virginia and northeast North Carolina early this morning, creating dangerously low visibility and slick conditions.
A Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect for the northwest and western Piedmont of Virginia, including Louisa, Ashland, Farmville, Dinwiddie, and Emporia, while a Dense Fog Advisory is in place for northeast North Carolina until 6 a.m. EST.
Visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less, and with temperatures below freezing, icy spots are likely on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel. Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this morning as a cold front passes through the region.
