According to the Village of Homewood Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle late Wednesday morning at approximately 11:55 a.m. in the 1100 block of 183rd for speeding 15 mph over the posted limit. During the stop, officers identified the driver as 19-year-old Alex Bates, who allegedly admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle.

Police said a subsequent search turned up approximately 73 grams of suspected cannabis, over 80 empty plastic bags, a scale, measuring tools, and a 9mm handgun with no serial number, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.” Tobacco products were also reportedly found in plain view inside the car.

Bates now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:
