Minooka, IL – A major vehicle accident on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 122 early Saturday morning has left at least one person trapped, prompting a full emergency response. The Minooka Fire Protection District responded to the scene at approximately 5:50 a.m. after reports of a van colliding with the rear of a semi-truck, resulting in significant damage and entrapment.
According to initial reports, the van struck the rear of the semi, causing severe damage to both vehicles. Emergency crews from Troy Fire Protection District were also dispatched to assist with extrication efforts due to the severity of the entrapment.
First responders on the scene are working diligently to free the trapped individuals, though the extent of injuries is currently unknown. Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area as the rescue operation continues and cleanup efforts are underway. Traffic is expected to be heavily impacted throughout the morning as crews work to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the collision.
