Gurnee, IL – A three-vehicle rollover crash caused major delays at a busy Gurnee intersection Tuesday morning, sending one driver to the hospital for precautionary evaluation.
According to a media release from Gurnee Police, officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:35 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Washington Street and Route 21. A preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Honda Civic, driven by a 54-year-old man, was heading west on Washington Street when it entered the intersection as the traffic signal turned yellow.
At the same time, a 23-year-old woman driving a Kia Sorrento eastbound on Washington attempted to turn left onto northbound Route 21. As she turned, her vehicle collided with the Honda Civic, causing the Kia to roll onto its side and slide into a black Toyota Rav4 that was stopped in the southbound left-turn lane.
Authorities said there were no major injuries reported at the scene. However, the Honda Civic driver was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville as a precaution.
The driver of the Kia Sorrento was cited for failure to yield while turning left. No other citations or injuries were reported as of Tuesday morning.
Motorists were advised to avoid the intersection during the investigation and cleanup, which caused temporary lane closures and delays during rush hour.
Gurnee Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
