Rockford, IL – Motorists in Rockford should plan for delays tonight and early tomorrow due to an overnight closure of U.S. 20 at its interchange with Interstate 39, affecting traffic between Mulford and Alpine roads.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that this closure is crucial for installing structural steel for the new southbound I-39 bridge. The shutdown starts tonight at 9:00 PM and will continue until 5:00 AM on Thursday.

Detours will route eastbound U.S. 20 traffic via I-39 southbound to the Baxter Road interchange (exit 115) and back to I-39 northbound. Similarly, westbound U.S. 20 traffic will follow the same detour in reverse.
