Monroe, MI – A Monroe man has been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a serious injury crash that took place last month in Frenchtown Township, authorities announced.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported Saturday, June 21, at 9:44 p.m. on North Dixie Highway, northeast of I-75. Sheriff Troy Goodnough said search warrants were executed Monday, June 23, at a home and detached garage on the 5000 block of North Stoney Creek Road. Investigators allegedly located a severely damaged blue 2009 Ford Fusion inside the garage, connecting the vehicle to Michael D. Kennedy II, 36, of Monroe.

Sheriff’s officials stated that Kennedy was allegedly driving northeast on North Dixie Highway when the car struck Connie L. Cosby, 40, and Anthony R. Keister, 40, both of Monroe, as they crossed the roadway. After the collision, Kennedy allegedly fled the scene. Authorities arrested him soon after and booked him into the Monroe County Jail.

On Tuesday, June 24, Kennedy was formally charged with two counts of failing to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death. He was arraigned before Judge Eicher in Monroe County 1st District Court, with bond set at $75,000 cash or surety.

Mr. Kennedy is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
