Los Angeles – A total lunar eclipse will be visible across the West Coast late Thursday night, March 13, into the early hours of Friday, March 14, 2025. Skywatchers will have a rare chance to see the moon turn red during the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the eclipse will occur at the following times in Pacific Time (PT):

• Begins at 10:45 p.m. (March 13)

• Total eclipse from 11:26 p.m. to 12:31 a.m. (March 14)

• Ends at 1:10 a.m.

Cloud cover may impact visibility in some areas, but if skies remain clear, residents across much of North and South America will also have a chance to see the event.

This phenomenon, often called a “blood moon,” happens when Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon, filtering sunlight and casting a reddish glow.

The next total lunar eclipse visible on the West Coast will occur on March 3, 2026, before sunrise.
