Denver – A total lunar eclipse will be visible across the Mountain West early Friday morning, March 14, 2025. Skywatchers will have a rare chance to see the moon turn red during the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the eclipse will begin at the following times in Mountain Time (MT):
• Begins at 11:45 p.m. (March 13)
• Total eclipse from 12:26 to 1:31 a.m.
• Ends at 2:10 a.m.
Cloud cover may impact visibility in some areas, though many in the region should have a clear view. If conditions cooperate, residents across much of North and South America will also witness the eclipse.
This phenomenon, often called a “blood moon,” occurs when Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon, filtering sunlight and casting a reddish glow.
The next total lunar eclipse visible in the Mountain West will occur on March 3, 2026, before sunrise.
