Torrington, Connecticut – Snow-covered roads and hazardous travel conditions are expected across northwest Connecticut on Sunday as a winter system brings steady snowfall to Litchfield County from morning through late evening.
According to the National Weather Service office in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday for both northern and southern Litchfield County. Forecasters expect snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches, enough to create slippery road conditions throughout the day. An earlier advisory for Saturday has been canceled, with the focus now fully on Sunday’s impacts.
In Torrington, Thomaston, New Milford, Terryville, Oakville, and surrounding communities, snowfall is expected to begin shortly after daybreak. Local roads, hills, and secondary streets could become slick by midmorning, with the most difficult travel likely during the afternoon and early evening hours. Higher elevations in Litchfield County may see snow stick more efficiently, increasing the risk for reduced traction.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Those with flexibility are encouraged to limit non-essential travel during the afternoon. Sidewalks and parking lots may also become slick as snow continues to fall.
The advisory is scheduled to expire late Sunday night, though lingering slick spots may remain into early Monday morning. Additional updates or statements could be issued if snowfall intensifies or lasts longer than expected.
