Tornadoes Hit Rock Island County and Mississippi River

Rock Island, IL – Two tornadoes were confirmed in the Quad Cities area on Wednesday, May 24, according to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois. 

The first tornado, an EF-1, occurred from Coyne Center to Colona, IL, with peak winds of 110 mph and a path length of 20 miles. The second tornado was observed over the Mississippi River near Le Claire, IA, but it caused no damage and was rated EF-unknown. 

Emergency management teams have been assessing the areas affected for any additional impacts.
