Shreveport, LA – The National Weather Service has confirmed that two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Lafayette County, Arkansas, on the evening of April 2, 2025. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The first tornado struck Gin City between 6:48 PM and 6:59 PM, with peak winds reaching 110 mph. The tornado traveled a path of 7.81 miles and had a maximum width of 250 yards.
A second EF-1 tornado touched down in eastern Lafayette County from 7:17 PM to 7:18 PM. It had winds estimated at 95 mph, with a shorter path length of 0.28 miles and a maximum width of 75 yards.
Additionally, a strong downburst caused damage southeast of Lake Columbia around the same time. Winds from the downburst were also estimated at 110 mph, with a path length of 1.10 miles and a width of 600 yards.
According to the National Weather Service, no injuries or deaths were reported from either the tornadoes or the downburst. Survey crews are continuing their investigation of the affected areas.
This event highlights the strong weather patterns that can impact areas like Lafayette County during the spring storm season. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and stay prepared for severe weather.
