Norman, OK – The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of Southern Arkansas, Northern Louisiana, Northwest Mississippi, and Northeast Texas. The watch is in effect Thursday afternoon and evening, from 2:10 PM CDT until 10:00 PM CDT.

The primary threats in the affected regions include the possibility of a few tornadoes, some of which may be intense, along with scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events up to 2 inches in diameter. Damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph are also possible.

According to the NWS, severe storms, including supercells, are expected to develop near a frontal boundary stretching from southwest to northeast across the region. Any storms that develop near or south of this boundary may pose a tornado risk, in addition to large hail and strong winds.

The tornado watch area includes a region approximately 50 miles north and south of a line extending from 10 miles south of Tyler, TX, to 50 miles north of Greenville, MS.

Residents in these areas are urged to stay alert for any developing severe weather and to listen for later statements and possible warnings. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, and preparedness actions should be taken.
