Jackson, MS – A tornado watch remains in effect for parts of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana until 5 a.m. CDT Saturday as severe storms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, MS, the watch includes 24 counties in Mississippi, stretching from central to northeast and northwest parts of the state. Cities affected include Jackson, Starkville, Columbus, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City. In Louisiana, seven parishes are under the watch, including Madison, Morehouse, and Richland. Southeast Arkansas is also impacted, with Ashley and Chicot counties included.
Residents in these areas should remain alert as the storm system continues to produce conditions favorable for tornado development. The National Weather Service warns of the potential for damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes throughout the night.
Authorities advise residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as NOAA weather radios and mobile notifications. If a tornado warning is issued, individuals should seek shelter in a sturdy, windowless interior room or basement immediately.
This storm system follows a week of unsettled weather in the region, increasing concerns about flash flooding and travel disruptions. The tornado watch is expected to expire by early Saturday morning, but officials urge continued caution as the situation develops.
