Evansville, Indiana – A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Wednesday across parts of southern Illinois, southern Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri, as fast-developing storms threaten to bring damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, storms are expected to intensify along a boundary stretching from near Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to northeast of Evansville. These cells could produce wind gusts up to 75 mph and hail as large as 2 inches, especially through the late afternoon and early evening hours.
In Indiana, residents from Evansville to Jasper should remain weather-aware as the storm line tracks east. In western Kentucky, communities including Paducah and Hopkinsville may see severe wind damage and downed power lines. Southern Illinois cities like Marion and Carbondale are also in the impact zone, with high winds posing a threat to travel on I-57 and I-24. Southeast Missouri towns such as Poplar Bluff and Sikeston should prepare for rapid storm development.
Residents in all affected areas should charge phones, secure outdoor objects, and avoid travel during severe storm warnings. Tornadoes can form quickly in these conditions, and local emergency agencies urge the public to stay tuned for updates.
Additional warnings are possible as storms evolve through the evening.
