St. Louis, MO – The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a Tornado Warning for parts of eastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois, including St. Louis, St. Charles, and Madison counties, until 10:15 PM CDT Friday.
At 9:24 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Maryland Heights, moving northeast at 60 mph. Radar indicated rotation within the storm, prompting the warning. The storm is also producing ping pong ball-sized hail.
According to the National Weather Service, impacted areas include St. Louis, O’Fallon, St. Charles, St. Peters, Florissant, Chesterfield, and numerous other communities across the region. Residents in these locations are urged to seek immediate shelter in a sturdy structure, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows.
This warning also includes several state parks, including Confluence State Park and Horseshoe Lake State Park. Interstate travelers should be cautious, particularly along I-55 near exit 23 and I-70 between exits 220 and 231.
Flying debris poses a significant risk to those outdoors or in mobile homes. Residents should take precautions and remain in their safe locations until the warning expires or further updates are issued by authorities.
