Limon, Colo. – Residents in eastern Colorado are being urged to take immediate shelter as a tornado warning remains in effect for east central Elbert County and central Lincoln County until 5 p.m. Saturday. A dangerous storm capable of producing a tornado and hail up to two inches in diameter was located 11 miles south of Limon at 4:27 p.m., moving southeast at 25 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, radar indicated rotation within the storm, which could quickly produce a tornado. Officials warn that flying debris poses a serious threat to anyone outdoors, and mobile homes could be destroyed. Roof, window, and vehicle damage is likely, with tree damage also possible.

The warning covers mostly rural areas, but residents anywhere near the storm’s path should immediately move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Those in mobile homes, vehicles, or outdoors should seek substantial shelter without delay.

This warning will remain in effect until 5 p.m., though additional watches or warnings may be issued if the storm continues its current track.
