Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is preparing for a significant weather event today as remnants from Hurricane Beryl move through the region, bringing a threat of short-lived tornadoes and heavy rain along I-70. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis has issued a severe weather alert, urging residents to stay vigilant.
According to the NWS, rain will begin around noon and persist throughout the evening, with the most severe weather anticipated between 6:00 PM and 2:00 AM. The greatest threat area will be south of I-70, where there is a 5%-9% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of any point. Showers and thunderstorms will increase in intensity throughout the day, raising the potential for isolated, brief tornadoes, especially in areas south of I-70 and east of I-69.
Today’s forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 71°F to 79°F with a 100% chance of precipitation. The weather will remain cloudy with intermittent showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. Tomorrow, the rain will continue with a 70% chance of showers and a high of 78°F.
As the week progresses, the weather in Central Indiana is expected to improve. Thursday will see sunny skies and temperatures rising to 82°F. The warming trend will continue into the weekend, with highs reaching 85°F on Friday and 87°F on Saturday, accompanied by mostly sunny conditions.
Sunday and Monday will bring even higher temperatures, with highs of 88°F and 92°F, respectively. By Tuesday, the region can expect temperatures to peak at 89°F with continued sunny skies.
