Quad Cities, IA/IL – A tornado threat is looming over Iowa and Illinois starting Tuesday afternoon and extending into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities has issued a severe weather alert, warning residents of potential tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms are expected to develop west of the area on Tuesday afternoon. These storms could become severe as they move eastward, bringing a significant threat of tornadoes, especially west of the Mississippi River. The best chances for tornadoes will be from late Tuesday afternoon into the evening, with supercell thunderstorms posing the highest risk.

The severe weather threat is expected to escalate into the evening, increasing the likelihood of heavy rain and flash flooding. Residents should remain vigilant as damaging winds capable of downing trees and large hail that can dent cars are also possible.

Forecasters predict a busy weather week for the region. After the tornado threat on Tuesday, rain and thunderstorms will persist into Wednesday, with temperatures dropping to a high of around 70°F. Thursday will bring continued rain and a high of 66°F, before clearer skies and a slight warm-up heading into the weekend.
