Tornado in Southwestern Iowa Lasts One Minute Sunday Night, Causes No Reported Damage

Fort Madison, Iowa – A brief tornado touched down in southwestern Lee County, Iowa, Sunday evening, just northeast of St. Francisville, Missouri, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities. The twister, rated EF-U, was on the ground for about one minute and caused no reported damage or injuries.

According to storm survey results released Monday, the tornado formed at 7:41 p.m. and dissipated at 7:42 p.m. near Vincennes, Iowa. Survey teams confirmed the touchdown through video evidence. Peak wind speeds have not yet been determined. The tornado’s path length was measured at just 0.03 miles, with a maximum width of 10 yards.

Lee County Emergency Management assisted in the survey, and officials say no structures, vehicles, or crops were reported damaged. Residents in the area are reminded that even short-lived tornadoes can pose a threat and should be taken seriously.

No additional tornado warnings are in effect for Lee County at this time, but forecasters urge residents to monitor weather updates this week as more storms remain possible across the region.
