Cleveland, Ohio – Oppressive heat and humidity will grip northern Ohio today with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s, and heat index values approaching the upper 90s along and west of I-71. The National Weather Service in Cleveland warns that some areas could see dangerous conditions for outdoor activity through late Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, the hottest conditions will develop by mid-afternoon, with Toledo, Bowling Green, and Fremont expected to top out near 91 degrees. Cleveland and Akron-Canton will be slightly cooler, holding near 89 to 90 degrees, though humidity will make it feel several degrees hotter. Heat index values could push into the high 90s for several hours west of Cleveland, creating hazardous conditions for those without shade or air conditioning.

By evening, a line of thunderstorms may develop and move across the western half of the state, with storm chances increasing after 5 p.m. in areas such as Findlay, Sandusky, and Marion. Probabilities climb as high as 45 percent by late evening, raising concerns for strong winds and lightning. Motorists should be prepared for brief downpours and possible delays on I-75, I-80, and I-90.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Storm threats will taper off overnight, but more unsettled weather could return early next week.
