Lafayette, Indiana – A Michigan man was arrested after allegedly fleeing troopers at high speed on Interstate 65 late Wednesday, triggering a multi-agency response.

According to Indiana State Police-Lafayette District, the pursuit began around 9:46 p.m. after Boone County Communications Center reported a reckless sport bike traveling northbound on I-65.

Trooper Devin Farmer located the motorcycle, identified as a 2014 Suzuki GSX-R1000, allegedly traveling at approximately 110 mph near the 169-mile marker. Police said the rider exited onto State Road 26 at the 172-mile marker and briefly pulled into a parking lot before allegedly fleeing as the trooper exited his patrol vehicle.

Authorities said the pursuit continued southbound on I-65 before the rider exited and re-entered the interstate near the 168-mile marker (State Road 38), then exited again near the 158-mile marker (State Road 28). Troopers reported the motorcycle later traveled southbound toward the 150-mile marker rest area, where the rider parked between two semi-trailers and allegedly attempted to hide beneath one.

Troopers quickly located and arrested the suspect without further incident.

Police identified the rider as a 36-year-old man from Redford, Michigan. He was transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette for a chemical test before being booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.

According to Indiana State Police, the man was cited for multiple alleged offenses, including resisting law enforcement (Level 6 felony), criminal recklessness (Level 6 felony), operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.

The pursuit involved assistance from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Police Department, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, and Paddack’s Wrecker Service.

The incident may be of particular concern to student commuters and young drivers who regularly travel the I-65 corridor near Lafayette.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
