Tionesta, PA – Lake-effect snow continues across northern Pennsylvania this morning, bringing hazardous travel conditions, low visibility and fresh accumulations through 1 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Pittsburgh and State College, Lake Effect Snow Warnings remain in effect for Forest County, as well as Warren, McKean and Elk counties. Heavy snow bands will continue shifting across the region during the morning hours, producing rapidly changing road conditions.
In Forest County, an additional 2 to 8 inches of snow is expected. Farther east in Warren, McKean and Elk counties, storm totals are projected between 4 and 8 inches. Some areas within persistent snow bands may see higher amounts.
Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times due to falling and blowing snow, especially along open stretches of road and higher elevations. Slick conditions are likely on roads, bridges and overpasses, impacting the Monday morning commute.
Lake-effect snow bands can vary dramatically over short distances, with whiteout conditions in one area and clearer skies just a few miles away. Drivers should anticipate sudden changes in visibility and traction.
The NWS advises those who must travel to use caution, reduce speed and carry emergency supplies, including extra food, water and a flashlight. Pennsylvania road conditions are available by calling 511 or visiting the state’s travel information system.
Snow showers are expected to gradually weaken early this afternoon as bands lose intensity.
