Tinley Park, IL – A multi-agency manhunt is underway Monday morning after suspects allegedly fled a crash near Vollmer Road and Harlem Avenue in Matteson around 6 a.m., prompting a heavy police presence and traffic delays across the Tinley Park–Matteson area.
According to the Village of Tinley Park Public Safety, officers are assisting Matteson Police as they search for five males reportedly wearing all-black clothing and possibly armed with handguns. One person is in custody while five remain at large.
Police said a subsequent attempted carjacking was reported north of a nearby high school a short time later, and investigators believe it may be connected to the same group. Authorities have deployed drones and K-9 units to track the suspects across neighborhoods and open areas.
Commuters should expect slowdowns and intermittent closures near Vollmer Rd. and Harlem Ave. and surrounding streets this morning. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes and follow officer directions on scene.
Residents are asked to remain indoors if they see police activity, secure vehicles and homes, and call 911 to report suspicious persons or surveillance footage that may aid the investigation. Descriptions and details are subject to change as the situation develops.
This is a developing story; officials have not released additional identifying information. We will update as agencies provide new guidance.
