Tinley Park, IL – Drivers in Tinley Park should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as multiple large-scale construction and resurfacing projects begin this week, affecting major thoroughfares across the village.

Several key roadways will undergo construction, including portions of Oak Park Avenue, 171st Street, and the 80th Avenue area. These projects involve lane closures, traffic pattern shifts, and the presence of construction crews for several weeks. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or allow for extra travel time to avoid potential delays.

According to the Village of Tinley Park Illinois, the Oak Park Avenue resurfacing project is slated to begin Tuesday. The work will stretch from South Street north to 173rd Street and will include sidewalk replacement, curb replacement, and roadway milling. While Oak Park Avenue is expected to remain open, traffic will be directed to use turn lanes as the main lanes, with flaggers present to guide motorists. The project is scheduled to last through July 18.

Additionally, a water main replacement project will require the closure of portions of 171st Street from New England Avenue to just west of 70th Avenue. The closure is in effect from Monday through Friday of this week. Officials have stated that at least one lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

Further impacts are anticipated from Cook County’s roadway and bridge reconstruction on sections of 175th Street and Ridgeland Avenue. Over the next three weeks, contractor plans include pouring the deck for the Union Ditch Bridge and performing storm sewer work, which will affect travel in the area.
