Tinley Park, IL – Residents will have a chance to safely dispose of household items and shred documents during the annual Recycling Extravaganza and Shredding Event this Saturday, Aug. 23. The collection will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the 80th Avenue Train Station’s south parking lot.

According to the Village of Tinley Park, the event is being hosted in partnership with the Tinley Park Lions Club and the Environmental Enhancement Commission. Community members are encouraged to bring electronics, clothing, household textiles, Styrofoam, cans, bottles, boxes, gently worn shoes and other recyclables.

Organizers noted that some items will include a disposal fee, such as latex and oil-based paints, televisions and monitors, aerosol products, and household batteries. Residents bringing documents for shredding are limited to three boxes or bags per vehicle.

The goal of the Recycling Extravaganza is to divert hard-to-process materials away from landfills, officials said. Accepted electronics include computers, cellphones, DVD players, gaming consoles, and small household appliances. A full list of accepted items and costs is available at TinleyPark.org/EEC.

Event organizers ask that participants enter the station lot through 183rd Street and 76th Avenue to help with traffic flow.

This year’s effort underscores Tinley Park’s broader environmental commitment to reducing waste and promoting community sustainability.
