Olympia, Washington – Investigators are renewing a public appeal for information in a 2007 homicide that remains unsolved nearly two decades later.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, detectives continue to actively investigate the death of Karen Bodine and are urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.
Bodine’s body was found Jan. 22, 2007, at the entrance of a gravel pit off Littlerock Road SW, north of Rochester, Washington, according to a cold case bulletin released by the sheriff’s office. The case remains classified as a homicide.
Investigators said all tips are still being reviewed, emphasizing that information provided years later can still play a critical role in solving cold cases. The sheriff’s office reiterated that even seemingly minor details could help establish timelines, identify persons of interest, or corroborate evidence.
To honor Bodine and bring renewed attention to the case, the public is invited to attend a vigil on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The vigil will be held near the intersection of Littlerock Road SW and Sargent Road SW, close to where her body was discovered.
Officials said the event is intended both as a memorial and as a way to encourage anyone with lingering information to contact investigators.
Those with information related to the case are asked to contact the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit by email at TCSOcoldcase@co.thurston.wa.us.
The case marks nearly 19 years without an arrest, and investigators said they remain committed to pursuing justice for Bodine and her family.
For commuters and nearby residents, investigators noted that community awareness remains critical in long-standing cases involving rural roadways and remote locations.
