Caribou, Maine – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across northern and eastern Maine Thursday, bringing gusty winds and downpours from the North Woods to the coast.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, storms will develop early Thursday morning in northern areas like Fort Kent and Caribou before spreading southeast through cities including Bangor, Bar Harbor, and Eastport. A cold front moving through the state could trigger numerous storms, some strong enough to produce damaging winds—especially in northern Maine.
Communities like Presque Isle, Houlton, and Greenville may see storm activity as early as 6 a.m., while coastal areas will likely be impacted by late afternoon. Patchy fog tonight, particularly along the coast, may reduce visibility for morning commuters. Drier air behind the front will lead to clearer skies and overnight lows in the 50s.
Friday will feel cooler, with highs in the 70s along the coast and low 70s inland. A few lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible, mainly over the north. Dry conditions return Saturday before another round of storms may develop Sunday afternoon—again targeting northern Maine.
