Atlanta, Ga. – Heavy rainfall will continue to drench much of Georgia and the broader Southeast through Sunday evening, raising concerns over flash flooding in both urban and rural areas. Slow-moving thunderstorms tied to a stationary front are expected to drop several inches of rain, with the heaviest totals stretching from northern Georgia into the Carolinas.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, the front will remain stalled across the region, fueling repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall rates may become intense at times, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, near creeks, and along flood-prone roadways.

Communities including Atlanta, Augusta, and Macon could see water ponding on major interstates like I-20 and I-75, while smaller roads may become impassable. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through standing water, reminding drivers to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

The unsettled pattern could also disrupt outdoor events and delay flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where storms may bring sudden downpours and lightning. Power outages are also possible as saturated soils and gusty winds combine to topple trees.

Rain chances remain elevated across Georgia and the Southeast through Sunday, with additional advisories possible if flooding worsens.
