Cheyenne, Wyoming – Strong thunderstorms could rattle much of Wyoming this afternoon, with the greatest threat unfolding between noon and 8 p.m. Wednesday. Isolated severe storms may deliver wind gusts topping 60 mph, hail up to one inch in diameter, and bursts of locally heavy rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Marginal Risk of severe weather covers much of the state. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to fire up across central and eastern Wyoming, including Casper, Torrington, Laramie, and Cheyenne. The most intense cells may also bring frequent lightning and brief, intense downpours—especially in slow-moving storms.
Drivers on I-80 and I-25 should be alert for sudden changes in visibility, ponding on roadways, and gusty crosswinds. Rural areas may also experience brief power outages or minor tree damage due to high winds.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially if traveling or working outdoors this afternoon. Secure loose items, charge devices, and have a way to receive alerts as storms develop rapidly.
The threat of storms should taper by mid-evening, but more unsettled weather is possible later this week.
