Lombard, IL — A DuPage County judge has denied the State’s request to detain three Chicago men accused in a violent kidnapping at a Lombard BP gas station during an alleged car sale. The defendants, Philip Stamps Sr., 47, Philip Stamps Jr., 22, and Joevontae Dixon, 23, face multiple alleged felony charges, including aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery.

According to police reports it began November 6, Lombard police responded to a fight reported at the BP station on East North Avenue. Investigators allege the three suspects arranged to meet the victim for a car sale. When the victim arrived, they allegedly stole his briefcase, which contained car titles, his cellphone, and computer. The men reportedly forced the victim into a minivan, where he endured repeated physical assaults as they drove toward Chicago.

Authorities say the suspects threatened the victim and forced him to contact his family to transfer funds. Chicago police eventually located the minivan and arrested the three men, while the victim, suffering from severe injuries, was hospitalized.

The defendants are scheduled to appear in court on December 2 and could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
