Joliet, IL – A Joliet man was killed and two others critically injured following a three-vehicle crash on Black Road Saturday evening, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to a release from the Joliet Police Department, officers responded around 6:54 p.m. on Saturday to the intersection of Black Road and Magnolia Drive after reports of a serious traffic crash. A preliminary investigation determined that a Buick Regal, driven by a 57-year-old man from Joliet, was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a Buick Encore driven by a 68-year-old woman from Joliet.
The impact of the collision caused the Regal to strike a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 26-year-old Joliet man, which was also headed eastbound on Black Road.
The driver of the Buick Regal was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by Joliet Fire Department personnel and was later pronounced deceased. The driver and a 69-year-old female passenger from Lake Station, Indiana, in the Buick Encore were also taken to St. Joseph Medical Center and remain in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
Police temporarily shut down the roadway to allow Joliet Police Department Traffic Investigators to reconstruct the scene. The identity of the deceased driver and the cause of death will be confirmed by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are urging anyone with video footage or information related to the crash to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at (815) 724-3193.
