The Dalles, OR – A Freeze Warning remains in effect for the Eastern Columbia River Gorge from 11 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday, bringing another round of sub-freezing temperatures to north-central Oregon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pendleton. Forecast lows are expected to fall to around 29 degrees, posing a risk to crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.

According to NWS Pendleton, the combination of clear skies and light winds Tuesday night will allow temperatures to drop quickly after sunset. The coldest hours are likely to occur between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, when widespread frost and freezing conditions could develop across The Dalles, Arlington, and surrounding communities along the Gorge.

Residents are urged to take precautions to protect plants, outdoor pipes, and exposed water systems. Gardeners should cover or bring in tender plants, while homeowners are advised to insulate or wrap exterior faucets and irrigation systems. Agricultural producers may need to take specialized steps to protect late-season crops from freeze damage.

This Freeze Warning follows several chilly mornings already observed across the region, signaling the deepening transition into winter for the Gorge. Even brief drops below freezing can cause significant stress to vegetation that has not yet fully gone dormant for the season.

Road conditions are not expected to be impacted, as skies will remain dry and clear through the warning period. However, patchy frost may form on elevated surfaces such as decks, vehicles, and walkways, creating slick spots early Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to rebound into the mid-to-upper 40s by Wednesday afternoon, offering some relief after the cold start. Still, NWS Pendleton advises staying weather-aware as additional overnight freezes may develop later this week.

The Freeze Warning applies to communities including The Dalles, Arlington, Rufus, Biggs Junction, and nearby rural areas along the Eastern Columbia River Gorge.
