According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), improper use of turkey fryers can cause flames to ignite instantly, engulfing decks, porches, or even homes. The demonstration showed a fryer erupting in flames, simulating how quickly a holiday celebration can turn catastrophic.
Thanksgiving is among the busiest days for home cooking fires, with turkey fryers contributing significantly to the danger. Officials recommend using fryer alternatives, such as oil-less air fryers, or following strict safety guidelines, including fully thawing the turkey, avoiding overfilling with oil, and operating fryers well away from structures.
