Iowa–Illinois — The early light of late November glints across frosted fields near the Mississippi River this morning, a calm start before another seasonal pivot. After a bright, mild weekend, rain returns to the Quad Cities Monday, followed by a colder, breezy stretch that will carry through the start of Thanksgiving week.

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities reports that today and Sunday will stay mostly sunny, with highs climbing into the mid-50s — ideal for late-fall yard work or early travel prep. Winds will increase Sunday afternoon, signaling the approach of a stronger storm system that spreads rain across eastern Iowa and western Illinois by Monday evening.

Rainfall could be steady at times Monday night, tapering by early Tuesday as cooler air filters in behind the front. Temperatures will slide through the week, dropping from the mid-50s Monday and Tuesday to highs near 40°F by Wednesday. Some models even hint at light snow showers north of I-80 by mid- to late week as the first true winter air mass builds over the Plains.

For Thanksgiving travelers, conditions will start dry but chilly. Across much of the U.S., forecasters are watching a major cold front sweeping east that could affect return travel through the weekend.

Five-Day Outlook (Davenport–Moline Area):

  • Today: Sunny, high 54°F.

  • Monday: Cloudy, rain developing, high 55°F.
