Medford, WI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Taylor County early Wednesday morning through noon, as a cold front brings 2 to 5 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 40 mph, creating slippery roads and reduced visibility during the busy Thanksgiving travel period.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, rain will transition to snow after midnight tonight, continuing into Wednesday morning. The heaviest snow is expected between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., with blowing snow making travel difficult for the morning commute.
Forecasters warn that roads could become snow-covered and slick, especially on untreated surfaces. Winds will also pick up through the morning, causing patchy whiteout conditions at times.
Motorists heading out for early holiday travel are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check 511wi.gov for real-time road conditions. Officials advise carrying emergency supplies, including blankets, food, and a flashlight, in case of delays.
The snow is expected to taper by midday Wednesday, but gusty winds could continue to cause drifting snow through the afternoon.
