Ellensburg, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of central and eastern Washington through early Wednesday morning, with forecasters warning of snow, ice, and hazardous travel conditions across the Cascades and Kittitas Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the advisory covers the Upper and Lower Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades—including Roslyn, Cle Elum, Appleton, and Cliffdell—as well as the Kittitas Valley, where mixed precipitation will create slick roadways from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Snowfall totals are expected to range from 5 to 9 inches in higher elevations and up to 2 inches in lower valleys, with ice accumulations of a light glaze possible. The combination of moderate to heavy snow and freezing rain could reduce visibility and make travel difficult along U.S. 97 and Interstate 90, especially near Snoqualmie and Blewett Passes.
Forecasters warn that even minor snow or ice accumulations could make for treacherous driving conditions during the Tuesday evening commute, particularly for early Thanksgiving travelers.
Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution, check wsdot.wa.gov/travel for real-time conditions, and carry emergency winter supplies.
Conditions are expected to improve after daybreak Wednesday, though slick spots may persist on shaded or untreated roads.
