Aurora, IL – A Texas woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly abducting two children from an Aurora home and attempting to take them to Mexico.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers were called to the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a possible kidnapping involving two juveniles, ages 11 and 13. Police said the children had been staying with family when an unfamiliar woman arrived, claiming she was sent by their mother to take them out of state.

Investigators allege the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Cindy Sanchez of Fort Worth, Texas, left with the children without the mother’s permission. Chicago Police later located Sanchez and the juveniles at Midway Airport, where Aurora officers assisted in returning the children safely to their family.

Police said Sanchez is a relative of the children’s father, who does not have legal custody. Authorities allege the father paid Sanchez to transport the children to him in Mexico by way of the Texas border.

The children were not injured during the incident.

Sanchez has been charged with two counts each of kidnapping (Class 2 felony), child abduction (Class 4 felony), and unlawful restraint (Class 4 felony). She is being held at the Kane County Jail pending a pre-trial hearing.

Aurora Police emphasized that the charges are allegations and Sanchez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
