Fort Worth, Texas — A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all of North and Central Texas as confidence increases in a significant winter weather event impacting the region from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the developing system could bring moderate to heavy accumulations of snow, sleet, or freezing rain, along with dangerous cold temperatures that may persist into early next week. The watch includes the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Temple, Killeen, Paris, Sherman, Corsicana, and dozens of surrounding counties.
Forecasters warn that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to become hazardous as winter precipitation develops Friday and continues through Saturday night. Significant ice accumulation is possible in parts of the region, which could lead to downed power lines, tree damage, and power outages.
In addition to wintry precipitation, extreme cold is expected Saturday night through Monday morning. Temperatures may become life-threatening for those without adequate heat, and officials warn of pipe damage, risks to livestock, and prolonged infrastructure strain if outages occur.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that exact precipitation types and amounts are still uncertain, but confidence is high enough in impactful winter weather to prompt early preparations. Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates, finalize winter preparations at homes and businesses before Friday, and reconsider or adjust weekend travel plans.
Officials also encourage checking on elderly neighbors, those with medical needs, and anyone vulnerable to cold conditions, and ensuring emergency kits include food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries.
The timing of this system could significantly affect commuters, essential workers, and weekend travel across much of Texas.
