Amarillo, Texas – Gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms could roll into Amarillo by Friday evening, bringing a fresh round of summer instability ahead of Father’s Day.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a 20% chance of thunderstorms is expected Friday night through Sunday night across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. While storms are not expected to be widespread, they may bring damaging wind gusts, especially west of Amarillo along I-40. Spotter activation is not currently anticipated, but NWS urges residents to stay weather-aware as conditions may shift.

Friday will be hot and breezy, with highs near 94°F and winds from the south at 10 to 15 mph. The best chance of showers arrives Friday night and Saturday night, with isolated storms possible both evenings. While daytime hours remain mostly dry, roads could become slick overnight due to scattered downpours. South Plains drivers are urged to use caution, especially after sunset.

By Sunday, the pattern remains unstable with a continued 20% storm chance after 7 p.m. Monday clears out with highs nearing 96°F — capping a hot and active weekend stretch.

Looking Ahead:
NWS expects dry, sunny conditions to return Monday through Tuesday, but temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s. Residents should hydrate and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
