El Paso drivers could face slick roads and flooding concerns Saturday as heavy rain and thunderstorms sweep across western Texas. The National Weather Service warns of widespread showers beginning Friday afternoon, continuing into the weekend, with a 70% chance of storms on Saturday. Travelers along Interstate 10 should prepare for reduced visibility, ponding water, and potential delays.

According to the National Weather Service office in El Paso, scattered thunderstorms may develop late Friday and persist through Sunday morning. Some storms could bring brief downpours strong enough to trigger localized flash flooding in low-lying areas and washes. Residents should avoid flooded intersections and use caution if traveling in or around El Paso County.

Saturday will bring the greatest risk of storms, with a high near 81 and gusty winds possible. Outdoor events across El Paso and Fort Bliss may face interruptions, and power outages cannot be ruled out. By Sunday, rain chances taper to 40%, though wet roads will remain an issue for morning drivers.

The unsettled pattern clears as early October begins. Monday and Tuesday bring drier conditions and partly sunny skies, while temperatures climb back near 87 degrees by Wednesday. Despite the fall calendar, winter-like chill is not in sight for far West Texas just yet.

Stay weather-aware and monitor updates, as additional watches or advisories may be issued heading into the weekend.
