Lubbock, Texas – Lingering drizzle and showers are expected across much of Texas today, with afternoon storms possible, according to the National Weather Service. Lubbock, Plainview, and Childress will see cloudy skies clearing from southwest to northeast as the day progresses. Most areas should see cooler temperatures in the 60s, with highs in the mid-60s to low-70s.

According to the National Weather Service, light showers will persist through the morning hours. There is a 30-40% chance of rain in Lubbock and surrounding areas, with the highest chances in Friona, where the rain probability reaches 50%. By this afternoon, the rain should taper off, but there’s a risk of thunderstorms in the region, especially in Lubbock and Plainview.

Travelers should be aware that while roads are not expected to be hazardous, visibility could be reduced due to light rain and drizzle, especially in the early part of the day. Storms could cause brief periods of heavy rainfall and gusty winds in some areas, so it’s important to stay weather-aware.

The cooler-than-usual temperatures will continue for most locations, with highs around 67°F in Lubbock and 61°F in Plainview. The warmest spot today will be Aspermont, where temperatures could reach 75°F.

Weather conditions will improve as the clouds clear throughout the day, but additional storms remain a possibility. Warnings for possible thunderstorms may be issued later today as conditions change.
