Dallas, Texas – North Texas residents may want to limit outdoor activity Sunday as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has declared an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Officials warn air quality will reach levels that could pose health risks, especially for children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.

According to the National Weather Service and TCEQ, weather conditions on Sunday will trap ground-level ozone, leading to unhealthy smog concentrations across Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, and Collin counties. The agencies urge residents to reduce vehicle use by carpooling, avoiding drive-thrus, and postponing unnecessary trips.

Health officials recommend limiting strenuous outdoor exercise in the afternoon, when ozone levels peak. Sensitive groups—including people with asthma or heart disease—should remain indoors as much as possible. Air quality monitors indicate the highest risk will occur in central and northern portions of the metroplex, including Plano, Frisco, and Denton.

Residents can help ease pollution by conserving electricity, keeping vehicles well-maintained, and waiting until evening hours to refuel cars or use gas-powered lawn equipment.

The alert remains in effect through Sunday night, with additional action days possible if stagnant weather persists into early next week.
