Fort Worth, TX – The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is warning Texans of continued warm and dry conditions extending through at least mid-next week, with temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to mid-90s across North and Central Texas this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, most of Texas has received 1 to 4 inches less rainfall than normal over the past 30 days, leaving the state abnormally dry. With no rain in sight and above-average heat, officials caution that wildfire starts could increase late this weekend, especially when breezy south winds return on Sunday.
The agency advises residents to avoid outdoor burning, noting that even a small spark could spread rapidly under current conditions. “Unfortunately, the warm and dry weather will continue through at least mid-next week,” the NWS Fort Worth office said in a Thursday morning update.
The normal high for early October typically sits in the upper 70s to lower 80s, but a persistent ridge of high pressure over the southern U.S. is keeping Texas warmer and drier than usual. Fire weather concerns will remain elevated until humidity levels rise or meaningful rainfall returns.
