Dallas, TX – Texas is bracing for two separate rounds of heavy rainfall over the next several days, raising concerns for elevated river levels, saturated ground, and localized flooding across portions of the state. Forecasters with the West Gulf River Forecast Center and the National Weather Service say rainfall will begin midweek and continue in waves through early next week.

According to the NWS, the first surge of rain arrives today through Friday morning, with the highest probabilities for 3+ inches focused along and west of I-35, including areas near Austin, San Antonio, and the Hill Country. Runoff and rapid river rises will be possible where the heaviest rains fall.

A second round follows Saturday through Tuesday morning, with a broader and more intense swath of rainfall expanding into Central and North Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Forecast maps show elevated chances of 3+ inches, especially across urban corridors where drainage can be overwhelmed quickly.

The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal to Slight Risk for excessive rainfall for parts of Texas Wednesday and Thursday, with locally heavy thunderstorms capable of producing scattered flash flooding. Moisture streaming ahead of an upper-level trough will fuel multiple rounds of storms that may train over the same areas.

While significant, widespread flooding is not expected at this time, forecasters caution that minor river flooding and elevated flows remain possible into next week. Urban areas may be at heightened risk due to pavement runoff and already-saturated soils.

Residents are urged to stay weather alert, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid driving through flooded roads.
