Houston, TX – Texans may want to keep umbrellas handy this week as the first days of fall bring stormy conditions. Tuesday marks the start of an unsettled stretch, with stronger rain chances expected to build through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop by late Tuesday morning, with a stronger storm window between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Houston metro area. Drivers along I-45 and Beltway 8 should expect slower commutes and possible water buildup on low-lying stretches.

Rain chances rise sharply on Wednesday, when forecasters predict an 80% chance of storms and locally heavy rainfall. Southeast Houston neighborhoods, including areas near Hobby Airport, may see temporary flooding if storms linger. Residents should monitor weather alerts and secure loose outdoor items in advance.

Thursday continues with unsettled skies, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms before skies begin to clear. By Friday and Saturday, conditions improve, delivering a sunnier and warmer stretch to end the week.
