San Antonio, Texas – Water rushed through low spots, rain streaked windshields, and visibility dropped across parts of the Hill Country early Sunday as heavy thunderstorms left behind flooding concerns across the San Antonio metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Flash Flood Warning was issued after radar estimated 2 to 3 inches of rain had already fallen across portions of Bexar, Comal, and Kendall counties. Forecasters warned that creeks, streams, urban streets, highways, and underpasses could flood rapidly in the heaviest rain bands.

By late morning, conditions were beginning to improve in many locations, but standing water may linger in flood-prone areas. Residents near Leon Valley, Hollywood Park, Fair Oaks Ranch, Timberwood Park, Government Canyon, and other northern Bexar County communities should remain alert for residual flooding issues.

The broader weather pattern continues to support pockets of heavy rain across parts of Texas and the Gulf Coast. While widespread severe weather is not expected across San Antonio today, meteorologists continue monitoring isolated thunderstorms that could briefly produce heavy downpours. A tornado threat appears low locally, but strong storms elsewhere across the southern Plains remain possible.

Drivers should continue using caution along I-10, Loop 1604, Highway 281, and low-water crossings throughout the Hill Country. Wet pavement and hidden water hazards can persist after rainfall ends.

Looking ahead, the weather story quickly shifts from rain to heat. Sunday afternoon temperatures climb into the mid-90s with heat index values near 106 degrees. By Monday and Tuesday, highs surge to around 96 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Long-range outlooks suggest above-normal temperatures will continue into late next week across South Texas.
